Quiz: Why Is Coming Clean So Hard?

Ten Ways We Avoid Repentance

Which ones do you use without realizing it?

This quiz is designed to help you recognize which of these ten patterns you may be leaning on to avoid repentance.

For each statement, choose how true it is for you on a scale of 1 (not true of me) to 5 (very true of me).

Not true of me Very true of me

Whatever you recognized here, the way through isn't trying harder to manage it.

David committed grievous sins, yet God called him "a man after my own heart" (Acts 13:22). What distinguished David was not sinless perfection but a heart that returned to God. When confronted with his sin, David confessed: "I have sinned against the LORD" (2 Samuel 12:13), and Psalm 51 records his deep repentance and plea for God to create in him "a clean heart."

The only cure for each of these defense patterns is repentance.
